AFTER THE STORM

The power of a great storm can sometimes feel never-ending. The torrent of rain, the constant roll of thunder, the howling wind, the brilliant lightning. In the moment it feels unrelenting.

But as the rains wain, the thunder becomes a soft roll, the wind a breeze, and the lightning a distant memory there is a peacefulness that weaves its way through. Life waits patiently to move.

-

As the calm settles there is a sweetness to the air, the way it feels on your skin, the way the grass smells and feels underfoot, the way everything seems to come slowly back to life.

-

Life moves. It comes out from hiding, out from the dark. It lifts its face to the sky and looks around. Carefully stepping out into the approaching light.

-

And so it is with you. The storm will bring unrelenting forces. It will force you indoors, into solitude, candles burning, fear in your chest. And you ride the waves of thunder as they vibrate in your whole being.

-

You may be blown from your seat by winds too powerful to fight. You may be struck by the brilliant lighting over and over uprooting you and causing you to run for cover. Anything to get away from the unrelenting torment it brings.

-

But the rains calm, the thunder dissipates, the winds brush gently, and the lightning fades. You wait, not fully believing the storm is over. But it is, for now.

-

There is a sweetness to the aftermath. A calm you’ve never felt. A rooted and grounded knowing you’ve never seen. And life begins to move.

-

Slowly at first you step from solitude. You come out from the dark and lift your face to the sky. You carefully step out into the approaching light.

-

And just as the sun touches your skin you know. You have weathered the storm. And the sweetness of life begins to stir inside you. You are safe. You are home.

-

Storms will come dear one. Always. But you are stronger than you think. You are still here.
